Cold

It's definitely cold here. The temperature right now is 4, and the wind chill is -14. I know it's cold becuase the dog's flanks shake when we go outside and she won't sit or lay on the ground. This morning she was chewing on a stick and would lay down but not let her belly touch the ground. She drueled, and then the druel froze around her mouth. When we can back in, she finally noticed it and started eating the little pieces of ice off.

It's so cold, the snot in your nose starts to freeze if you're out long enough. That's cold.

The Little Package that Could

Last fall, just as I was going back to school, Wes's dad came to visit for a few days. When he left, he forgot to give us back the key fob that opens the main door downstairs. Wes asked him to mail it back to us so we would have a spare set of keys, and he did. Unfortunately, by the time he visited again in November, the key fob had not made it back. We chalked it up to Chicago's horrible mail system (by all accounts, the worst in the nation).

Imagine my surprise when I found today among two other packages a box from John Self, Wes's dad, postmarked August 30, 2007. In it was our key fob.

Better late than never, indeed.
