Sunshine

Wes and I talked recently about how much we still miss Chicago.  Nashville is great, and I at least am probably making more friends here (mostly mom friends at this point) than I did in Chicago, but the city just doesn't feel like home the way Chicago did for some reason.  But then today we were reminded why we came here.

It was around 80 here today.  Emme and I took a walk to the park at noon, where we met a few other moms and their kids.  We were out for a little under two hours, and Emme slept peacefully in her car seat the entire time.  I, however, basked in the sunshine.  I even have the pink arms and nose to show for it.

This, my friends, you cannot find in Chicago.  

A milestone, of sorts

I reached a big milestone today as a researcher.  I got my first IRB (Institutional Review Board) application approved, which means I can conduct my research study in Savannah next week as planned and use the data for possible presentations and publication.  The IRB basically oversees both medical and behavioral sciences research, making sure that participants are protected and the research is conducted ethically.  This is something all researchers have to do, but it's kind of tedious and can become timely and involve many revisions.  Some students who work on big grants for their professors don't do one until late in their graduate experience, so I'm glad I was forced to do one early on.  I only had to make a few small corrections and additions to mine, which is great, and I feel much better equipped, thanks to this experience and my qualitative methods professor, to do these in the future.

Now comes the real work!

Things that make you go waaaaah

I've been weepy recently.  I don't know if it's post-partum weepiness, birth control hormones weepiness, or gray skies weepiness, but regardless, I'm tearing up much more often here.  Following is short but incomplete list of things that regularly make me cry (just a little, but still...):

• Ads for the new TLC show Coming Home
• The third hour of Emme's evening "fussy" period
• The Darius Rucker song "It Won't Be Like This For Long" 
• Pictures of Oliver as an infant

So if you call and I sound like I've been sobbing, just chalk it up to one of these.
