What's in a name?

I was having trouble trying to decide what name to put on my blog when I realized the problem -- I have many names. I was born into this world as Elizabeth Anne Neiheisel. I was Elizabeth because my maternal grandmother made me so (and I share my name with a great-grandmother who died before my parents were even married). I was Anne because it started with an "A" (all the kids in my family have middle names that start with "A") and it sounded good with Elizabeth. And I was a Neiheisel because I'm short, have pudgy fingers, and clean too much. To the United States government and anyone who only meets me on important paperwork, I am Elizabeth Anne Self. To anyone who meets me in person, I am Liz. To my husband Wes, when he's being sweet or really wants something, to my parents and sometimes my siblings, I'm Lizzy. How did I lose the "Eliza"? When I was younger and had to start writing my name on the top of so many worksheets at school, I simply decided that Elizabeth Neiheisel was too much to write. I felt I wasn't girly enough to be a "Beth" (thus began my obsession with a word's associations), so I became "Liz." And so I am.
