Wes and I were watching a movie last night (
Unforgiven; didn't love it) after he'd taken Lucy out, and she seemed to be chewing on something while lying in her bed. This is pretty usual for her; she seems to try to ingest just about everything she encounters on the ground. I took some kind of gross green and black mess out of her mouth and threw it out. Five minutes later she was at it again. So the lights came on and we took a closer look. Sure enough, she'd stepped in gum, which became wadded all over one of her back paws. Several applications of JIF peanut butter helped clean it all off, and naturally Lucy helped herself to some of the cleaning agent also. There was a moment there, with Wes holding her on in the bathroom and me tending to her, that just seemed to portend some later date when the dog will replaced by a child, and we'll be cleaning gum out of her hair.
