Yesterday, Wes put on some pants he bought last Monday -- and they were noticeably too large. He's going after work today to exchange three recent purchases for a smaller size. He's lost at least 4" off his waist in the last 4-6 weeks. He has a thin, toned belly, tiny legs, and no butt to speak of. It's disgusting. He says he's still not in as good of shape as he was when playing baseball, but he looks more like it now because he's so much leaner.
Now granted, this hasn't happened magically. He started eating a bit healthier and exercising more often. Five and six mile jogs turned into twelve and fourteen mile runs. Wes would "go for a jog" and run from here to the Lincoln Park Zoo -- around 6-7 miles away -- and then back. But I have to say, the results have been dramatic and quick. I wish I were able to lose weight so easily.
I've tried to explain to Wes how unfeeling it is to lose so much weight -- and carry on about how your clothes are too big -- when your wife is growing a belly the size of a small watermelon. He insists he's doing it for the baby -- to be healthier for me and our kids -- and that this is the one time in my life it's okay to gain weight and, obviously, inches around the waist. While thoughtful, that doesn't make up for the fact that his old pants probably now fit me!
