Thanks giving, Week 20

This morning is the Country Music Marathon here in Nashville.  The route starts at Centennial Park and ends at Turner Field (where the Titans play) and comes right by our house in two directions.  The pictures are from the end of the block, on Belmont Avenue.  Our neighbor said in previous years the route went south on Belmont and north on 12th, which essentially blocked everyone who lived in the blocks between those main streets into their homes for the duration of the run.  This would have been a BIG problem for us, since Wes works overnights this weekend and had a hard enough time getting home from the hospital around all the marathon traffic.

Oliver and I walked down to Belmont Avenue around 7:30am, after he'd had his breakfast.  He wasn't sure what to make of the crowds of people on the sidelines and hordes of people running.  He watched everyone and stared for a while at the little girl who lives next door (and is almost a week to the day younger than him).

We got to see our neighbors from three sides out there: Renee from next door, who currently has a momma cat and kittens living in her basement; our neighbor on the other side and her daughter Lyda, whose oldest son had gone home to eat breakfast; and Joe, Sunday, and Terrence, who came just as we were leaving.  We talked about the race, the impending bad weather, our out-of-control lawn (no time to mow), and Oliver.  Renee tried to get Ollie to talk to her, but he's usually pretty reserved in this type of situation.  A nearby onlooker gave him a pinwheel to play with, and he really liked that.

We didn't stay long, as we didn't know anybody running, but it was fun to be a part of the neighborhood and see some people we know and meet others we don't.  I'm hoping that as the warm weather continues, we'll see more and more of people.  Regardless, I'm thankful for neighbors who are, so far, very neighborly.
