I have a request to those organizations and non-profits to which I donate money. Please don't say thank you.
Every fall Wes and I make a small donation to alma mater. The school does a lot of fundraising efforts whereby someone makes a substantial donation if a certain percentage of a the class donates, regardless of the amount. So we've been doing this for years. And every year we get thank you notes -- several. Because it's in both our names, we get two sets of thank you's. So take a pittance we donated and subtract the cost of a letter -- or 4 or 6 over the course of the year -- and that's the net for the school.
A few weeks ago, we made a donation to an organization in honor of some little girls who were having their first birthday. Since then, we've gotten thank you notes -- and requests for another donation.
I know it's polite to say thank you. And I'm sure there has been lots of mass marketing research that helps these organizations know how much mail is actually worth it. But can I just say, for me and Wes and our whole family -- you're welcome. We'll donate again when we're ready. Now keep your mail and save the $0.64.
