Here's what happens when Wes finally gets into the Christmas spirit.
We bought our little tree on Thursday night -- and I shouldn't say bought, since the guy at the register gave it to us for free. He said they were going to throw them all out in two days anyway! The kids were too tired to decorate that night, so we waited until this morning. We left the more fragile ornaments put away but included some of my mom's snowflakes to fill it out. Wes also decided that we needed more lights up (something I'd suggested last week, but I guess he wasn't ready yet). It looks cute, it didn't take too much work, and Oliver is really enjoying it. My guess is that we're establishing some traditions here -- decorating later in the month (which makes sense, since I'll pretty much always be finishing a semester mid-December), doing a tree closer to the date, and so forth. I think it's just what works for us, at least for now.
