A star for effort

Wes and I joined a gym near the apartment last week. I liked LPAC, but I'm no longer working close enough to make it convenient, and I wasn't using it much anymore. I'm able to sell that membership, which is great, and having a gym near the apartment makes more sense. Plus, Wes could join. The new gym, Fitness Formula, has all the exercise equipment, plus a basketball court, short course pool, whirlpool/sauna/steam room, etc., along with a rooftop deck for getting a tan. It was something of a financial commitment, especially for two of us, but we felt it was worthwhile so long as we really used it. And we have. Wes tries to go on his way home from work, and I fit it in when I have two hours free in the middle of my day. I can run home and shower afterwards if I need to head back out for an evening class. I decided we needed some reward for new (or continued, in my case) fitness regimen, so we now have this calendar on our refrigerator. We get a star if we work out (running or biking outside counts, too, of course). As you can see, Wes had a strong start but I've pulled back even with him. He's had two nights of call this week, hence his less than stellar performance more recently. Isn't amazing how motivated you can be, even as an adult, by a sticker on a chart on the wall. I think it has more to do with positive peer pressure than the sticker, but for me, it's probably 50/50. Posted by Picasa
