Lucy has been having a rough time of it recently. We've been keeping the windows open since we've had such nice weather, and we usually get a nice breeze off the lake, bringing with it a plethora of smells. Consequently, she go into a kind of "sensory overdrive" and gets very nervous. As such, she likes to hide in small places to help her calm down. The bathroom is a favorite, but I try to keep her out of there unsupervised because she's been known to vomit on the rugs, should the need arise, which means I have to wash them versus simply clean up the wood floors. More recently, she's been
hiding in my closet -- which would be fine had she not, on one long and evidently boring afternoon, chewed a hole in a sweater I rather liked. So a few days ago I tried giving her access to the bathroom while we weren't here. I figured she'd lay on the rug, and that would be that. This, however, is what I came home to -- a piddle on the floor, and a LOT of toilet paper on the group in the bathroom. It made me laugh hysterically because it seemed like she'd looked for a place to go the bathroom, went, and then tried to wipe or something. Not amusing when I had to clean it up, of course, but you have to have a sense of humor about these things -- even I, the queen of clean, know that.
She seems to be a little more soothed these past few days and chooses the space under the desk and the kitchen table in place of the bathroom and my closet. But she's still not to be trusted.
