My sister-in-law spoke next:"As we all know, Liz and Wes are eternal students and avid readers. They have for years, and will continue to, seek out the knowledge and wisdom of others, learning by example from some who are present here now. Tonight they have chosen to include passages from scripture and literature that describe their understanding of love and marriage inasmuch as they realize it now and desire to live it out in the coming years. These words are as much a part of their vows as the words they have written to each other and should, in years to come, remind them of the relationship they seek today.
Martin Luther King, Jr. writes,
The meaning of love is not to be confused with some sentimental outpouring. Love is something much more than emotional bosh...An overflowing love which seeks nothing in return is the love of God operating in the human heart...Love is the most durable power in the world. This creative force, so beautifully exemplified in the life of our Christ, is the most potent instrument available in mankind's quest for peace and security...The great military leaders of the past have gone, and their empires have crumbled and burned to ashes. But the empire of Jesus, built solidly and majestically on the foundation of love, is still growing.
May your love, built on a solid foundation, still grow."
