Dry-er

Last weekend Wes and I began to notice a noxious odor coming from our dryer. Every time we did laundry, the smell seemed to settle into our clothes. The building engineer agreed that something smelled, but he didn't seem to have the first idea what to do about it. He checked the ventilation traps for rodents, but he didn't find any and I guess assumed the smell would dissipate.
When it didn't, Wes put his disassembling and constructing skills to work, pushing the washer/dryer unit out of the closet (a feat unto itself), and looking at the piping in the wall to find the problem. Evidently, a drain pipe had been left open with no cap on top, and because some of the water and waste had backed up, the air from the dryer was blowing its smell into the room via the dryer. After a trip to Ace and one to Home Depot, Wes was equipped with the proper tools and went to work. Fortunately, much of the disassembling happened while I was at work, saving me from wringing my hands and gnashing my teeth (I believe in his abilities, I really do -- I just get nervous because we don't own the place). When all was said and done -- and the final duct tape was in place -- the smell was gone and has stayed away.

I cannot begin to say how grateful I am that my husband possesses so many skills that I do not.
