Hunger Strike

A few weeks ago, when we were running low on dog food and not yet ready for a big Peapod order, I asked Wes to pick up a bag of dog food at Target. They didn't carry her regular dog food evidently, and Wes brought home a generic bag of Kibbles and Bits. Lucy has never made a fuss over switching dog foods. Whenever we visited my family or his, she just ate whatever the home dog was eating (and seemed to prefer it if offered her own food). This time, though, the food had unexpected results. The dog became a pooping machine. She went from 1-2 a day to 3 or more. And, it seemed to me anyway, that she started drinking a lot more water, also resulting in extra potties outside (and, to my consternation, inside on more than one occasion). Thus, it was with great excitement that the bag of Kibbles and Bits emptied out, and Lucy started in on a bag of the old "brown and boring" dog food.

My excitement, however, has not been shared by one small beagle. Lucy is now down to about a cup of dog food a day, ostensibly on a hunger strike to get her beloved Kibbles and Bits back (is it the kibbles or the bits she loves so much?). She should know now, though, that it won't work. As my mother always said (usually of children, not dogs): "When she gets hungry enough, she'll eat."
