"And it's very, very hard to make a sound like that"

The rains came down, and the floods came up, indeed. It started raining here late Friday and it hasn't stopped since, really. The backyard has gone from wet to soggy, and the garden is completely underwater. The storm sewers on our street can never keep up when it rains this much, so there's running water out to the middle of the road. There was a small accident down the road, and six people have died so far in the area from collapsing trailer homes and drowning. Two of the local interstates -- I-40 and I-24 -- are closed due to flooding, and the mayor has asked everyone to stay off the streets (perhaps the guy driving down our street at 40mph in his SUV didn't hear). Everyone here is a little stir-crazy -- Oliver in particular -- from having to stay in for the last several days. We are fortunate to still have our electricity and water, which is not true for everyone in the area.

The good news is that it's supposed to stop tonight and lead into a week at least of clear, sunny days that will help dry everything and cause the grass and bushes to grow like crazy.
