Wes and I are having lots of people through our house this week. Formerly, this might have meant we were having lots of friends over, or more recently, that we were having neighbors over (like for Oliver's birthday). This week, though, it just means we're having lots of doctors over. Wes hosted journal club at the house last night, so there were 20-25 residents and attendings here. We did a little cleaning beforehand and more after. Journal club is always catered, so we also have a bunch of leftover nacho chips with various layers of nacho dip in the refrigerator, plus a variety of drinks. Not to be outdone by the residency program, though, on Friday we will also host around 30 researchers in honor of the 2nd Annual World Pneumonia Day (you did know about this coming up, right?). The head researcher on the pneumonia project Wes is part of evidently saw this day as an opportunity to celebrate their work, though it does seem a little strange to have a party to "celebrate" pneumonia. So the refrigerator is also full of snacks and appetizers for Friday, plus some wine and beer. Oliver and I will be here for this one (I had class last night, and Wes stayed with some friends), though Lucy will once again "retreat" to the garage. This is a little more party-like than journal club, which has an academic function, so we're making a sign for the wall and things like that. We even got a couple of stuffed, fuzzy microbes to give away as door prizes.
Aren't we so, so cool?

Enjoy the fuzzy microbes. I'm sure there will be a lot of laughter which is good 'medicine' for everyone!
