Size does matter

For those who have been waiting for a baby picture, here she is -- the Samsung HP-S5073 50" plasma television. We have watched The Princess Bride, and plans for this evening include The Departed, which comes highly recommended by friends. I have no idea how we ended up with this in our house. When Wes and I moved into the new apartment, we couldn't figure out where to put the television. Then we realized that we would have to buy a piece of furniture explicitly for the television to sit on, and that didn't make a lot of sense. So I unwittingly said something like, "You know what would make this easier -- if we could just put the TV on the wall." Mistake. Wes didn't perceive it as a sarcastic comment, and we slowly started shopping. We looked, we read reviews (and by we I mostly mean me). We talked about prices and sizes. A 42" would have made more sense in this apartment probably, but we would like to have the TV out of the living room in the future, so it was okay to get something bigger (or so we rationalized). I narrowed it down to four TVs -- the lower grade and upgraded version of two TVs that met my aesthetics for a television. On my fourth trip or so to Best Buy, the 50" version of the Samsung was marked down as an open-box television. It's nice looking, HD ready, great picture, and a big name we feel we can trust. So I paid the very uncomfortable bill and came home to tell the still-sleeping Wes that we were the proud parents of a new plasma televisions. Mind you this is the same day we paid a not small tax bill to the federal government. All in all, we spent a couple thousand dollars that day to get me out of the house while Wes was sleeping off his night shift. That'll teach him to nap. (Note: Wires are still being hidden. We had technical difficulties with cord lengths and necessary openings, so the ugly cable cord will eventually disappear.)
