Sunny Savannah

I just got back yesterday night from six days in Savannah with my sister, brother-in-law, and beagle nephew. On Wednesday, we went downtown in the afternoon to enjoy the sights and sounds of Savannah -- a historical carriage tour, a self-guided walking tour, a house tour of the Mercer-Williams House (of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil fame), dinner on the river, and of course, a stop by Uncle Billy's new gorgeous house. Downtown is really lovely with old stately homes (including Sherman's!), unique architectural details, and city-block parks that were in early spring bloom. The weather that day was among the nicest all week, and we were able to wear short-sleeves and shorts or skirts and stay comfortable until it got breezy. I was pleased to meet the founder of the city, James Oglethorpe, as well as good-old Pulaski, of Pulaski Day fame, who died at the Battle of Savannah and hence has his own statue there.

Overall, the city has a distinct feel to it, unique from Charleston but with some of the same sensations. Most importantly, Laura and her husband seem to really enjoy it, and I can always use more relatives in warmer regions!
