Thanks giving, Week 39

Ten years ago today, I went on a first date.  It's memorable only because it was my last first date.  My date that night -- a fellow senior at Davidson, pre-med and the pitcher for the baseball team -- went with me to see The Princess and the Pea at the Children's Theater in Charlotte.  I packed chicken salad and pita bread, and we ate dinner at a picnic table across the street from the theater.  A few hours later, we got back to campus and watched the opening ceremonies of the 2000 Summer Olympics on television, then took a walk around campus (in part to check on his mating fruit flies).  And if my memory serves me, we stayed up into the wee hours of the morning just talking.  Seriously -- it was weeks before he kissed me.

A little less than four years later, I married that guy, and four years after that, I had his baby.  Five minutes ago, I sent them both off to school for the day.  So this week, I'm thankful for firsts -- first dates and first kisses -- and for a lifetime more of both.

Love you, hunny!
