Cool Birthday Gift #1

My mother-in-law rocks. I got home from a 3-day trip to Hilton Head for an educational conference (which was cancelled, unbeknownst to my colleague and me, about an hour before we left Chicago) to find this on my counter. Unfortunately, I didn't get the email from the gift-givers (my mother- and sister-in-law) that told me not to open it before May 1 until after I'd opened it all up -- though in my defense the ice cream maker was shipped in its own box. This thing is so cool! It makes various types of ice cream, just like the Cuisinart Wes got me several years ago (but died after two years), but this one then dishes it up soft serve style (which I LOVE) and adds in treats like M&Ms, chocolate chips, or nuts as you serve it. I mixed up some strawberry ice cream (using fresh strawberries of course) to prepare when Wes got home Sunday. I'm embarrased to admit was ate almost the whole batch because it was so good. Wes even had chocolate chips sprinkled into his second serving -- I think just so he could try it out. We had plans to make a different kind tonight, but I hadn't cleaned up from the first night so the bowl wasn't frozen. Perhaps it'll be ready tomorrow for a birthday treat! Thanks, ladies!
